Position Overview

Common Room Coworking provides exceptional workspace and professional community in downtown Benicia for remote workers, entrepreneurs, and students. Our small, welcoming space offers flexible work areas, meeting rooms, and small business services.

Common Room is hiring a part-time summer staff position, with flexible start and end dates between June and September. The Community Manager will keep our space welcoming and tidy while helping members and guests with everyday needs and light tech support.

  • Expected Hours: 12-18 hours per week on a fixed schedule

Key Responsibilities

The Community Manager helps create a welcoming, professional, and smoothly run environment for members and guests. Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the face of the space: Monitoring the front entrance, warmly greeting members, guests, and drop-ins, and providing tours and orientations as needed.

  • Maintaining a clean and organized environment: Handling light daily cleaning and organization tasks, including wiping down communal surfaces, emptying trash/recycling, redistributing mail, and resetting workspaces.

  • Managing shared supplies: Monitoring inventory of shared essentials such as coffee, paper towels, and printing supplies, and restocking or reordering items.

  • Providing light tech support: Assisting with basic troubleshooting and logistics, such as helping guests connect to WiFi and screens, resolving simple printer issues, and navigating the app.

  • Supporting community growth efforts: Assisting with occasional marketing and outreach projects, such as distributing flyers, brainstorming promotional ideas, or helping with small events and member activities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Experience: 1-2 years of customer service experience preferred

  • Tech Instincts: should be comfortable navigating mobile apps, casting screens (like Chromecast), and troubleshooting basic computer connections (cords, printers, wifi).

  • Other Skills:

    • Friendly, personable, and comfortable interacting with a wide range of people.

    • Strong emotional intelligence and good judgment in social situations.

    • Able to relate to people across age groups and professional backgrounds while maintaining a professional presence.

    • Trustworthy, dependable, and reliable.

    • Resourceful and solutions-oriented, with the persistence to help resolve issues effectively.

    • Patient and professional when assisting with complaints or technology challenges.

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds, including transporting office supplies, trash, or recycling between floors using stairs.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $17 to $20 per hour 

  • Overtime: In accordance with California labor standards, hours worked over 8 in a single workday or over 40 in a single workweek will be compensated at the applicable overtime rate.
